Did you know that some of the most successful people experience anxiety? That’s right, you can feel anxious and still be the best at what you do!
As a matter of a fact, anxiety is a core component of the ‘level up’ tribe. Those of us who are goal-getters stay up later and put in the extra effort to ensure that our purpose is fulfilled. And that’s ok! Sometimes we don’t even realize that our passion presents itself as anxiety.
Often recognized as an emotion that should be avoided, anxiety tells us a lot about ourselves. For instance, my husband notices that the moments I am most nervous about, end up being my greatest accomplishments. Once I push past the emotion, I feel more confident the next time. When we understand anxiety differently, we are less likely to dodge situations and opportunities that could take us to the next level. “Be scared and do it anyway”.
While in some ways anxiety alerts us of possible threats, in other ways it activates our sense of urgency to get things done. It is imperative that we identify what role anxiety plays in our life so that we respond accordingly. Hopefully, these following tips can empower you the next time tension creeps in.
Acknowledge, name, and sit with your anxiety. Ever tried avoiding it to only feel like it was just getting worse? The more tolerance we build with our natural emotions, the less afraid we are to just let them be. If it places you at ease, take a few deep breaths, go for a stroll, or write out your thoughts. This will not only help you build more harmony within yourself, but it will also keep you on track with your goals. “You’ve totally got this!”
Place Faith Over Fear
You have the power of thought versus action. Faith can move you forward, or fear can keep you stagnant. When you really think about it, aren’t you proud of how far you’ve come? I mean you have literally surpassed every single obstacle that was meant to deter you. Remember, your past victories serve as constant reminders of your ability to thrive! So, practice doing the opposite of what anxiety might urge you to do. Set the date, commit to that goal, embrace your season!
Challenge Your Comfort
Feels good, doesn’t it? I know, I’ve been there. But you will never know who you can be if you remain where you are. When we are adaptable to change, our sense of balance is aligned no matter what shifts. Growth takes place beyond a point of comfort. Try something different or switch up your routine. I can’t wait to hear what happens when you stretch yourself!
I hope that these tips highlight an alternative perspective of anxiety, and also aid you in progressing forward confidently. If you desire additional support, it may be helpful to speak with a local therapist or mental health professional.
